A tragic story has emerged from Enugu, where a young hairdresser, identified as 22-year-old Miss Odama Mary Agado, reportedly took her own life after discovering that her boyfriend, whom she had been supporting financially, was cheating on her.
According to reports from Vanguard, Mary, who hailed from Woleche-Ipuole in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, was said to have ingested a poii.sonous substance suspected to be sniiipper following the heartbreaking discovery.
Friends and family described Mary as a hardworking and generous young woman who had built a successful career as a hairstylist in Enugu. She was known for her kind heart and had reportedly gone out of her way to provide for her boyfriend, including renting him an apartment and buying him a car.
Heartbreak after shocking discovery
Trouble began when Mary paid an unannounced visit to her boyfriend’s residence last Friday, only to find another woman with him in the apartment she had paid for. Overwhelmed by anger and disappointment, she reportedly stormed out of the building and returned to her own home in tears.
A family member, identified as Daniel, revealed that after the incident, Mary called her mother to explain what had happened. During the call, she expressed her pain and hinted at her decision to end her life, telling her mother to “take heart and accept whatever happens.”
“She was deeply hurt,” Daniel said. “She told her mother that she could no longer live with the betrayal. Unfortunately, her mother did not have enough airtime to call her back or raise an alarm in time.”
Attempts to save her came too late
Moments after the distressing phone call, neighbors reportedly found Mary unconscious after consuming the po!.son. She was rushed to the hospital, but despite all medical efforts, doctors confirmed she had passed away later that evening.
“It’s a heartbreaking situation,” Daniel added. “When her body was brought home, we immediately buried her because she was too young to be kept for the traditional burial rites. Some people believe she may have been spiritually manipulated, but no explanation can undo what has happened.”
Mary’s untimely death has left her family and community in mourning, with many expressing sadness that a promising and hardworking young woman’s life was cut short over a relationship betrayal. Her remains were laid to rest in her hometown in Yala, Cross River State, the following day.
The tragic incident has since sparked conversations online about mental health, toxic relationships, and the emotional struggles many young people face behind closed doors.
