A Nigerian lady identified as @miss_sarahkayy has taken to social media to share her painful experience after mistakenly recharging another person’s electricity meter with a whopping ₦300,000.
The hardworking entrepreneur, who earns a living as a braider, narrated the incident on TikTok, explaining how a simple mistake left her devastated and financially stranded.

According to her, the unfortunate mix-up happened when she entered the wrong meter number during payment. Realizing her mistake, she quickly contacted the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) in hopes of resolving the issue.
Sadly, she was informed that nothing could be done since the token had already been generated and allocated to another person’s meter.
In her words, “I just mistakenly recharged someone else’s meter with ₦300k and IKEDC said they can’t refund or re-allocate.”
Frustration Over a “Rigid System”
The heartbroken lady lamented how rigid the electricity system in Nigeria is, describing it as unfair and insensitive to genuine mistakes.
She expressed that the token generated for the wrong meter was now useless to her unless she willingly handed it over to the person who unknowingly benefited from her money.
She wrote, “The funniest thing is, the token will waste if I don’t give it out to the owner of the wrong meter number. Why is the system so rigid?”
Mixed Reactions Trail Her Story
Her video quickly went viral on TikTok, drawing sympathy and concern from many Nigerians online.
While several users empathized with her, others urged IKEDC to review its policy to accommodate errors like hers, which could happen to anyone.
A few people also advised her to always confirm meter details carefully before making payments in the future to avoid similar incidents.
Some users even tagged IKEDC directly, calling for a compassionate response to her situation.
