The woman, who shared her story on TikTok under the username @chefvee42, explained that she had been living in the property for about nine years and had never experienced any major issues with her landlord before the recent incident.

According to her, the disagreement began when the landlord came over to fix a fly-screen in the kitchen. During his visit, he reportedly noticed a few unwashed dishes in the sink and became upset about it.

Landlord’s Reaction and Eviction Notice

The tenant recounted that the landlord accused her of being careless and claimed that leaving dirty plates in the sink could cause stains on the walls or lead to poor hygiene. Shockingly, he then instructed her to pack her belongings and look for another apartment.

The woman said she was stunned by the decision, especially considering that she had maintained the apartment properly throughout her nine-year stay. She added that the landlord’s actions made her feel discriminated against and unfairly treated.

In her words:

“I’ve been in this apartment for nine years with no problem. Just because of unwashed plates, my landlord said I should move out. I can’t believe it. This feels so unfair.”

Tenant Questions Landlord’s Motive

The tenant expressed suspicion that there might be another reason behind the eviction attempt, suggesting it could be linked to her being a Black woman. She said she felt helpless and unsure where to turn for support.

She asked her followers: “Is this really enough reason to ask a tenant to leave? Or is it because I’m Black and don’t have anyone to speak for me?”

Social Media Reactions

The video quickly gained traction on TikTok and other social platforms, sparking intense discussions about tenant rights, discrimination, and fair treatment in housing arrangements.

Many users empathized with her situation, criticizing the landlord for overreacting to a minor issue. Others argued that the eviction was unreasonable and potentially unlawful, urging her to seek legal advice or report the case to tenant protection agencies in Belgium.

One commenter wrote: “Unwashed plates are not grounds for eviction. This is pure harassment.” Another added: “Nine years of peaceful tenancy and this is the issue? Something else is definitely going on here.”

However, a few users suggested the situation might have been a misunderstanding and encouraged the tenant to try resolving the matter amicably before taking legal steps.

Broader Discussion on Tenant Rights

The viral story has since fueled a larger debate about the rights of tenants in Europe and the need for clearer housing policies to prevent landlords from making impulsive or discriminatory decisions.

It also highlights the emotional and social pressure many immigrants face when dealing with housing disputes abroad, where subtle bias or miscommunication can escalate into major conflicts.
